Shopify’s cost per order is a short formula, not a mystery. This page lists the current official US rates, shows the math and lets you run your own numbers in the calculator below.

Data checked: July 20, 2026 against the US version of shopify.com/pricing. Rates differ by country; the formulas do not.

Plan rates (US pricing page)

PlanBilled yearlyBilled monthly3rd-party payment feeOnline card rate (US)
Basic$29/mo$39/mo2%from 2.9% + 30¢
Grow$79/mo$105/mo1%from 2.7% + 30¢
Advanced$299/mo$399/mo0.6%from 2.5% + 30¢
Plusfrom $2,300/mon/a0.2%from 2.25% + 30¢

Card rates above are the online standard rates shown on the US pricing page. Shopify Payments rates are set per country and per card type (the US page also lists premium card rates of 3.5%, 3.3% and 3.1% + 30¢ and a +1% international surcharge). Do not copy the US numbers if you sell elsewhere; take the rate for your region from the pricing page and put it into the calculator.

The formula

processing fee = order value x card rate% + fixed fee
platform fee = order value x third-party fee% (0 with Shopify Payments)
fixed per order = monthly subscriptions / orders per month
cost per order = processing fee + platform fee + fixed per order

Worked example: Basic plan billed yearly ($29), 100 orders per month, $50 average order, Shopify Payments at the US rate of 2.9% + 30¢.

processing fee = 50 x 0.029 + 0.30 = $1.75
platform fee = 0 (Shopify Payments)
fixed per order = 29 / 100 = $0.29
cost per order = 1.75 + 0 + 0.29 = $2.04 (4.1% of the order)
