Shopify's help documentation states that square images of 2048 x 2048 px usually display best. That size stays well under the 25 megapixel and 20 MB caps while keeping enough resolution for zoom.
The two hard limits are 25 megapixels (for example anything over 5000 x 5000 px) and 20 MB of file size. An image that exceeds either will not upload.
Shopify recommends PNG first, then JPEG. It also accepts PSD, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, HEIC and WebP.
Yes. Shopify accepts .mp4, .mov and .webm files up to 10 minutes, 1 GB and 4K (4096 x 2160 px), and serves them as MP4 or HLS. YouTube and Vimeo links can be embedded instead.
